it’s no longer news, but in case you’ve been under a rock:
“Life just got REALLY good.
Hello Hello Baby Blue!
We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven.
She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives.
We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”

congratulations and well-wishes to the happy parents!!! since her reveal of the pregnancy, beyonce’s bump watch has been on high alert, with plenty of foolish commentary. while’ i’ve appreciated watching her pregnancy style, that’s the extent of it for me. i think it is so exciting to see beyonce join the mommy club because she has literally grown up before our eyes. but we do have to be careful to respect boundaries. i’m sure bey will be doting and protective of her newest treasure.
i was struck by the name. at first i wasn’t sure, but upon reflection, i like that it feels extra-ordinary. she’s obviously going to have an extraordinary life! i read one article that broke down a plausible explanation of the name, but only blue’s mom and dad know the real deal. they’ve been much more open about the baby, than they’ve ever been about their relationship. so maybe someday they’ll share the meaning. but, if they don’t, that’s okay too. i think celebrities should get to keep some things for themselves.
speaking of openness: have you heard the song jay penned for his baby girl? it’s so sweet and honest and i LOVE the last few seconds with the baby crying in the background. i’d be willing to bet that is baby blue’s actual cry. it’s only befitting that music’s new princess is a recording artist within a few days of her birth. pretty cool! click here for the song, if you haven’t heard it yet.
do your children’s names have a personal story? share in the comments!

I love all my kids names and I don’t know if there’s any real symbolism. Brenna is a stretch of a combo. Kayla is Kayla. And Donevin I had to do some changing of the spelling because I’ll be damn if my son is named after a damn Eagle. Have a great day
“stretch of a combo”
Love it
brenna wasn’t really a combo…not to contradict my beloved
. i was looking for a b name to do the initials…just like you, delise. he vetoed many of my suggestions (sound familiar?), until we came upon brenna. after she was born, everyone assumed it was a combo, so now we just go with it. i wanted to continue the initials with baby #2, but again b names are scarce and dad didn’t like my suggestions, so moved on to d possibilities and then just cute names! kayla was a character from his then-favorite show, so he went for it! for years, my boy option was devin, but when i heard the name “donovan” i flipped. changed the spelling so it could more like dad’s…no mention of the eagles! lol
as it turns out the kids in order bkd is also our monogram. didn’t plan that, but i love it!
Usually the first-born gets the family name. Especially in the Haitian culture, it is very important. But in our case, that was not so. We really wanted a family name, but had some pretty obscure choices, so we decided on a name that would become a family name down the road – Harper. It wasn’t until a year later, as I was pregnant with Ella that we realized that my 100 year old great grandmother Nancy (who was still living at the time) had Ella as her middle name! So, our second child got the “family” name, which is comical seeing as Christopher and I are both second-born.
sweet… love both those names. very classic.
Ironically, I intended to review today’s news with you earlier. I started my morning with a tidbit from GMA. Both of my children have Sir Names, and were given careful consideration before they were named.
we had just talked about this recently! love that yours are similar.
welllllll…Hubby wanted a Jr. so naming our first was easy. The next was a girl and we didn’t want her left out so she got daddy’s initials (RGB)…now, with #3 on the way, we’ve made it hard on ourselves…gotta think of a third RGB to keep the trend going
Pray for us cuz hubby has vetoed every version of a boy “R” name that you can possibly think of
robert, roy, ray-ray, randy, ryan, reLease (lol), reed, renfrow, rodney, reebok (hehe), reginald, ronnie, ricky, ralph (hey 2/3 of new edition had r names). or you can be like george foreman and name all the boys after your hubby (haha). good luck, sweetie, and happy founders’ day.
