beach house blues…

well it’s that time of year again.  you know… when i start whining about wanting a beach house.  i wrote about it last year (see post here), after spending a week at the beach and now here i go again. maybe it’s because i’m constantly pinning images of beach-inspired perfection (see above), or maybe because it is my ultimate wish. either way, i’ve got beach house on the brain.

“if it’s like that,” you may ask, “what’s stopping you, girl?”  location, location, location!!!  every year we try a new place and every year hubby and i have these lovely chats regarding the selection of the perfect beach town.  but so far, the places we have visited have not quite fit the bill.  charming, but difficult to access; great beach, but too formal; charming, but not diverse; you get the picture.

so here’s our wish list for the ultimate beach town:

  1. at most 3-4 hours driving distance from my house to my beach house (nc or sc)
  2. on a nice sandy beach
  3. exudes “local” charm–small businesses within walking distance (not too commercial)
  4. the ability to become one of the regulars –a friendly, diverse atmosphere
  5. primary mode of transportation is golf cart or bicycle

that’s not too much to ask, is it?  besides, that’s the beauty of america.  we have so many options and the freedom to choose what suits us! of course, i know there’s no perfect beach town, so eventually it will simply come down to finding a place that just feels perfect to us.  until then, not having a beach house lends a different kind of freedom: we get to continue to experience the vast variety of beaches across the land.

speaking of freedom: happy 4th of july!  i’m thankful for my country and those brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect and uphold it.

God bless you and God bless America.

    • charleston oozes southern charm. funny how i don’t think of it as beachy…we’ve done kiawah island and it is fabulous, but not very diverse. haven’t done folly beach or sullivans island yet. food for thought, mamacita!

  1. I love Kiawah! Beaufort, SC/ St. Helenas Island is a beautiful place, very diverse ( maybe not the beach homes though). I love quiet, quaint, southern beaches. Folly is too busy…Isle of Palms is beautiful and diverse, yet still too many people for me. Hilton Head is a golfers paradise (MJ owns there), but very pricey. We love Jekyll Island, GA, and the OuterBanks, but too far for frequent travel . I love some of the NC beaches, but they just don’t tickle my fancy like SC beaches. A few years ago, I had a goal to visit every southern beach listed in this particular issue of Southern Living magazine. I lost that goal along the way, ( I keep getting drawn back to Kiawah) but once again you have inspired me back to the things I love and helped me find my old self. Next stop Dafuskie Island, SC (and maybe a blog of my own about finding my former self). :-)

i'd love to hear your thoughts!
